What We Do

CUPE Local 8443
Serving Schools, Supporting Success

Who we are
CUPE Local 8443 represents more than 1,400 dedicated education support staff working within Saskatoon Public Schools.

What we do
From accounting clerks and administrative assistants to maintenance workers, library and nutrition staff, educational assistants, IT technicians, caretakers, tradespeople, and many more, CUPE 8443 members fill more than 50 different roles vital to school operations. We ensure our schools are safe, welcoming, well-maintained, and fully supported, whether that means helping with day-to-day operations, supporting students directly, or enabling the behind-the-scenes work that helps classrooms run smoothly.

Why it matters
Our work is essential to the success of Saskatoon’s students: from helping them access nourishing meals, supporting their learning needs, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, to ensuring our schools are functional, inclusive spaces. When support workers are underfunded or cut, it isn’t just jobs on the line, it’s the quality of education and support for our children.

Our values & commitment
We stand for dignity, fairness, and respect for all support staff. We believe in strong public schools that serve every student, and we fight for fair working conditions, proper funding, and recognition for the essential work support staff do, because a supportive school environment benefits everyone.
